This journal is just for posting podfic, so friend at will! No need for a comment, although of course I’m happy if you say hi. :) I may post other podfic related things, but nothing RL, since that’s all in my main journal.

This is by far the longest podfic I have ever attempted and it was definitely a mountain to climb. I'm not quite sure why I decided to jump from 30 minute projects to an almost 6 hour one with nothing in between, but the final product was worth the time.

This is one of my favourite fics of all time, seeing as it combines my favourite genre (HS AU) with my favourite people (Brendon, Spencer, & Spencer's sarcastic mom)! I love Mog's sense of humour, and her ability to draw such a wide range of emotions for these silly teenage boys. This story is both hilarious and touching at the same time, and that's all her. <3

This also fills two squares on my podfic_bingo: 2+ Hours Long & Read A Friend's Fic.

These podfics were all part of a project for halfamoon (a fourteen day challenge celebrating female characters in fandom). I took part in this anthology last year too, and it was actually the first podficcing I had ever done, so I was excited to participate again and thus kind of mark that milestone. Plus, the turnout this year was phenomenal! So many more podficcers. :)

The anthology contains 104 stories, from 64 fandoms, performed by 47 readers. I was really short on time, and my flatmate lorelaisquared and I were visiting my parents for the weekend, so I thought I wasn't going to be able to participate. Then she mentioned she had a few drabbles that might work for it, and suddenly we were off! The result is two short but lovely Downton Abbey fics that were quite fun to record. Each of them were originally written as gifts for our friend ladyvivien, so I hope she enjoys her bonus podfics!

For day two of pod_aware I took part in the podcast, which was about blanket permission. It was great fun to actually get to chat about podfic in person (well, over Skype anyway!) and to meet new people. Yay!

Blanket permission is a way for fan artists to let other fans know their comfort with others playing with their works. It's particularly helpful to podficcers when authors give blanket permission for anyone to podfic their works without having to ask first. To find out more on blanket permission with regards to podfic check out pod_aware on LJ or DW.

In honor of pod_aware, the one thing I did manage to do, which is the Podficcer Meme that was floating around a month or so ago. I saved it at some point, meaning to do it, so here you go...

When did you first start podficcing?
Um, I’m pretty new! I did my first podfics for the Awesome Ladies Challenge, back in February or March 2011.

What would you say was your inspiration or motivation to start doing it?
Because I don’t really write fanfic or do graphics, I’ve always kind of felt like I wasn’t contributing much to the fannish community. (Yes, I know feedback and cheerleading is important, but it’s not the same thing, you know?) The only concrete thing I ever did was the Gilmore Girls Virtual Seasons, and that in kind of an organizing capacity. However, I love to read aloud. So when I became aware of podficcing a year or so ago, I thought it sounded perfect, I was just a bit unsure how to jump in. It took an actual challenge community (and one that was small enough not to be intimidating) in order for me to start asking and getting advice on how to proceed.

What fandoms have you podficced created podfic in?
Bandom, American Idol, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Parenthood, Daria, Greek (It sounds like more than it is, because a lot of those were small!)

What was your favourite podfic to make or do?
I think my favourite so far was Indoor Fireworks because I just loved the story so much. I read it and immediately wanted to podfic it.

Where do you draw your inspiration from for podfic?
From the fun I get out of its creation. Podfic is perfect for me, because it combines the joy I get from reading aloud, with editing which I also love. I did video editing at University (TV production major), so sound editing is a whole new avenue that has been fun to explore.

What was your least favourite podfic to make or do?
I don’t really have one at the moment. Most of my projects have been pretty short, so I haven’t had one that really drove me wild.

Which podfic are you most proud of?
The American Idol Kradam one Close My Eyes and Taste You on My Lips because of the cool collaborative process involved. I really felt like the fact that I was able to offer suggestions before the story posted really made the podfic better. Also, I recorded several draft versions as she did drafts of the story, so I knew it back to front by the time I actually recorded the final one.

What's the best feedback or comment you've ever gotten?
I think any feedback at all makes me happy, even if it’s just a quick thank you! Sadly, all of my feedback is on my main journal right now, because I only just moved these over to a podfic one. It made me sad to have to make new entries that would be all blank.

What's your opinion on music in podfic?
I think it’s really cool, although I haven’t tried it myself yet. I’m a little scared of how exactly to go about it, from choosing the music and deciding how to use it, etc, it seems a bit intimidating!

Favourite genre to podfic to (comedy, angst, romance, drama, AU)?
I’m definitely drawn to funny fics with good dialogue. I’m kind of sarcastic myself, so I always enjoy reading people who are as well. Also I have read some gen pieces, but I think just by the nature of fanfic, most things tend to be romance. Mostly I podfic what I read, so if I really enjoy a fic, my first impulse is to want to record it. My list of “I wish I could podfic this” fics is HUGE, and I’m slow, so I’ll probably never make it through!

Favourite fandom(s) and/or pairing(s) to podfic in?
Well, again I podfic whatever I read, so at the moment probably mostly bandom. :)

What just drives you up the wall when it comes to podfic?
Nothing yet. I’m sure it will happen though! Right now I’m just really enjoying the community of it all.

What’s your podfic recording set up like?
I have my MacbookPro, with Garage Band, and my mic is a Blue Snowball. (I'm sure it's a bit silly to have, but I got it when I was in the USA for such a great price that I couldn't resist!) I have a tendency to record very late at night because I have four housemates and our house is loud. Plus if you do it after midnight you don’t have to worry about the mic catching the rumblings of the tube! Depending on who is awake I either record in my room or in the small office we all share downstairs. I’ve only done small projects so far, so I’ve done all the recording in one sitting and then edited afterwards. When I do longer ones I’m sure I’ll end up putting in breaks. I usually try to record all do-overs within that recording, so if I mess up, I just re-do it immediately several times, and then edit out the ones I like the least. I use a clapping system, so if I screw up I immediately clap and then keeping going with a correction – that way you can see a tall spike on the audio track and it’s easier to edit.

What is your latest project or idea for your next podfic (if your muse isn't dead)?
I’ve been working on a few of sunsetmog’s fics for a long time. And when I say “working on” I mean I recorded them ages ago and then haven’t gone back to actually edit. So I really need to get my act together and finish that!

Finally, what kind of words of wisdom would you offer someone who wants to podfic/is a newbie?
Go for it! The podfic community is awesome and welcoming, and there are plenty of people who will offer advice and answer questions.
